January 2021

They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world:

someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for”

-Tom Bodett (American Author)

It’s the first week of a new year.

The memories of 2020 are still painfully close to the surface.

Distressing. Disconnecting. Discouraging. On so many levels.

The COVID-19 pandemic would have us believe that love, meaningful activity, and hope are futile…that fear, paralysis, and despair are the only options available to us.

That’s why I like Bodett’s quote.

It’s is a fabulous formula for entering 2021 with confidence and renewed energy!

It has been an honour to work with you and to have connected with you in some way over the past year. Reaching out for help is a true sign of strength. The challenges have been real and often very painful. I am inspired by your courage to talk through and find strategies to address whatever has been a source of distress for you.

As we start into the year ahead, with a pandemic that we WILL overcome, let’s promise ourselves:

1. to find ways to be loving to those we meet, with all the patience, kindness, empathy, and compassion that love requires of us!

2. to look for something meaningful to do in our lives, whether it be in in our work, our personal lives, or community…something to give us a sense of fulfillment and the knowledge that our actions, in whatever way, do make a difference in our world!

3. to be hopeful -  and open to the signs of real hope in our world, and to share that hope with those we come in contact with. Hope is contagious!

Cynthia, Tessa, and I wish you a happy, safe, and healthy new year!
